I Am Stressed

next week my blog have one year anniversary . That means I need to pay for hosting again. Luckily, I have used my other bank card for payment so, I will be able to pay for automatic bill. Next Year the card will expire and I have to update my payment information, but there is a big problem... I cannot acces my google apps account. Why? Because I cannot log it with my google account data. Google apps ask to use other username, who I supposed to made when I purchased domain name. But I never did create email addres with happy-and-famous.com. Google told me to create it now. So I searched my gmail account and found my verification email and tried to create an emai and password. but the only thing I get was - Error: We are unable to process your request at this time, please try again later. I was trying latre - actually I am trying for three days now. When it will be right time?
I checked that in google account I am registered as owner to my site and google agrees with it too. So where is the problem? I verified my ownership in two different ways, and still do not understand why there is a problem?
Contacted google and they told me that I should logg in my google apps also with my google account as it is ONE ACCOUNT FOR EVERYTHING related too google. I hope That next year will be not the last year of my website.

June 16th

I was pretty bad in lessons of history. But now I find that it is quite awesome to know some facts, events that was before. So when I am reading a book I like to search for author or book translator notes. When I was reading From Beyond by Arcady and Boris Strygatsky I found out that  Dushanbe - capital of Tajikistan since 1929 till 1961 was called Stalinabad. Dushanbe in Tajik language means - Monday.

In June 16th, 1963 Valentina Tereshkova was first female astronaut who wisited space. Now she is 76 and I was thinking, what she is doing today. Is she remembering or celebrating? As it is 50 years since I guess thet she is celebrating, as it was big event for humanity.

June 16.

Also found that since June 16, 2010 in Bhutan any kind of tobacco is prohibited.
Tupac Shakura (2Pac) was born in 1971. He would have 42 today! It was so surprisig when I opened music player Ghetto Gospel started to play as first song.

Happy Blommsday all James Joyce fans!

Roadside Picnik by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky

Roadside Picnic was written in 1971. Published in English in 1977.
The novel is about life after Aliens "Visitation" to Earth and most of it is about Redrick Schuhart (Red), stalker who search for artifacts for profits.
Roadside Picnic was refused publication in book form in the Soviet Union for eight years due to government censorship. Censored versions published between 1980-1990 was very departed from original version. My book was published in 1987 and probably it is the censored one.
the novel was nominated for  John W. Campbell Award for best fiction novel in 1978 and won second place.

Space Mowgli By arkady And Boris Strugatsky

I am trying to write something about this novel, while watching TV show. And it is a big mistake. I cannot think what I want to write. I even lost my all ideas while watching TV. Now something about novel.
Novel describes events in 2160. story is told by Stanislav Popov, a space ship technican. the crew consists of 4 members - Stanislav Popov, Maya Glumova, Gennady Komov and Yakov Vandehuze.
Maya - woman can be Latvian, because she have Latvian name Maija (Maya).
As crew is working on planet, they finds that there is crushed space ship with two dead bodies. But there had to be three of them, a little baby. They found, that baby (now 12 years old) has survived, but someone has changed his body, probably it was changed so kid may live on planet where air temperature is -10-2 C.
Kid learned to talk in 4 hours after he met humans. he wanted to know answers on many questions. The novel ends with conversation between Popov and kid. Popov left one of his robots on planet so kid may call him every time. And after that they spend a lot of time video-talking.
Space Mowgli was translated in English and is published as story in Escape Attempt

From Beyond by Arkady and Boris Strygatsky

http://www.rusf.ru/abs/images/obl/saaqq016.jpgFinished this novella yesterday. I have to admit - this was first fantasy I ever read. I was trying to find some information on-line, but it is so difficult when the book I read was in Latvian (that mean that title may be translated inappropriate). First I fond info in wikipedia. As title was in Latvian, I tried to figure out what it would be if translated in English, and what is it's original title in Russian.
I googled name of authors together with some character names of the novella. And found that Title in Russian is Извне and in English it is From Beyond. It is always pretty close translated to English, but when it becomes to Latvian... I still do not understand how Perfect Timing can be translated to Spoonful Of Love?

First the story was published in 1958 in magazine. Story consists of three parts and three eyewitnesses of unusual events.  they witnessed how space aliens visits Earth and their strange behaviour. archaeologist Lozovsky manages to get on Space ship board and he describes his observations there. there are no victims as Space aliens obviously is friendly (as Lozovsky describes).

I have two more stories in this book written by brothers Strugatsky - "Roadside Picnic" and "Space Mowgli"

Hope I will  read much more faster and will be not lazy on posting what I have read.

somebody is reading this , but me?

The Complete Illustrated Stories of Hans Christian Andersen

This is the next book I am going to read!

My mother gave it to me Yesterday. She told me that she found it next to outdoors garbage can in a card-box..

It has no marks of use at all (as I found, it should be printed in 1985th).

First published in Great Britain in 1889 by George Routledge & Sons under the title Stories For The Household
This facsimile editoin published in 1983 by Chancellor Press, 59 Grosvenor Street, London, W1
Reprinted in 1984m 1985, 1987
All Rights Reserved
ISBN: 0907486266, 9780907486268
Printed in Austria

Summary from back cover:
All the illustrated stories of the immortal Hans Christian Andersen are included in this handsome volume, a facsimile reproduction of a collection which first appeared in 1889. More than a century after they were written, Andersen's stories retain their freshness, magic and power to amuse; told and retold over the years to generations of delighted listeners, they have become part of our heritage. Thumbelina, the wicked Snow Queen, the Emperor with his new clothes, the Ugly Duckling - these characters are our familiar friends.
All these classic fairy tales appear in this book, as well as over 100 other stories, accounts of Andersen's travels, and his short autobiography 'The Story of My Life' - 137 stories in total. More than 290 original engravings capture the special enchantment of the tales.
Every age group - whether children hearing Andersen's tales for the first time, or parents and grandparents rediscovering them as they read aloud - will find this book a pleasure to own.

Thanks to my mother that she found this book, and the biggest thanks to the person who left this book next to garbage can!

Cuba: The Morning After Confronting Castro's Legacy Mark Falcoff

So, as my library is getting bigger and bigger, there is no more place in bookshelf. So, I decided to list some good books on Ebay. Currently I am not offering international shipment, because it is so expensive. Although, I am offering Free Shipping within Eu, Norway and Switzerland (shipping itself is not expensive to EU) First book I listed on auction is Cuba: The Morning After. Confronting Castro's Legacy by Marc Falcoff. Actually I do not know, how to price this book, but I saw that one seller in one online bookstore sold used for $40. I thought starting price need to be smaller, so go and bid for it!

I am so lazy! I created this blog and wanted to post more frequently, but obviously I am breaking my promise. Last post was on January 27th. More than one month ago!
Finally I placed Victoria's Secret stockings on Ebay auction. I still have no camera so I scanned the package :D The size chart is not visible therefore. As mainly I am working in shop alone I have no free time almost at all. Still reading the same book and knitting the same socks for my kid (I will not finish them until Spring)

Sunday, January 27, 2013

I almost finished knitting woolen socks for my 5 year old boy. Almost. It seems to be too small for him. Now I have to unrip them. Before I had my mother socks with hole on feet, I re-knitted the feet part and decided to knit one pair for my boy too and then read some book. Now I can't decide - make another pair (he already have five pairs) or to read Cuba: The Morning After--Confronting Castro's Legacy or A Woman in Berlin: Eight Weeks in the Conquered City: A Diary

any suggestions?
